What gear for a 5020 in the county pull?

Our FFA is having a pull at the end of July and it is pretty much an open class farm pull. I plan on taking my 5020 and am curious as the what gear I should use. My tractor sits on 30.5-32 tires with a 250 horsepower 619 engine. I plan on turning the fuel up some to feed the S475 turbo that I put on it. Any suggeations?

I would most likely be in 7th, but it will of course depend on the track. If it is tight and sticky you could be better in 6th, on a soft track 6th could be too much power for your traction.

You did not tell us what weight class you plan on pulling in but if it is stock form it would most likely be 13000--16000-my guess--so 7th might be too much--Like showcrop said--it also depends on the track. I would sooner spin it out then choke it off! Pull it past stop and give the old girl HELL--Good Luck---Tee

Beauty and the beast--BIG BLOCKS FOREVER!!!!

No weight class on this one. It's run whatya brung and and hope ya brung enuf! Seriously though, it is essentially an open class with no weight limit. So 7th gear with the bigger engine and tires, correct? I plan on pumping the engine up closer to 300 to 350 horsepower.

(quoted from post at 16:32:19 06/02/22) Depends on the sled, drop pan, -go faster, progressive use 6th.

X2 on drop pan. Speed can make a big difference if drop pan is in use and it is highly unlikely that it would not be in an open no weight limit class.

Going to have to be patient on this one. I am a pre planner. The pull isn't until July 23 but I have lots and lots to finish on the tractor. Spent all day washing it so that I can start working on it again.
