MMR gas smokes

I have an R with a 220 engine, LP head, points with MSD coil, and a stock tsx97 carb. When I am pulling, I have to have the main jet opened 5-6 rounds so I do not run out of fuel in a hard pull. With it like this, at idle it dumps too much fuel and smokes terribly, even to the point of fouling the plugs.I have been through the carb with a fine tooth comb. This isnt right but I have no idea what is causing this. I even thought timing, but could not find any issues there. The coil is new with a ballast resister on it also. Thoughts?

I think it is almost emptying the carb. I get rid of the sentiment bowl. Come out of the tank with the biggest pipe the tank will take. Hopefully 3/8. Then a Tee with a 90 degree shutoff. Then a pipe going down to a cap. For a water and rust collection. With a 3/8 hose to the carb. And a 3/8 in line filter. I know some of you think the filter restricts the flow. But I think it's the 2 little holes in the sediment bowl. And maybe the 90 deg elbow going in the carb. 1/4 . On our 336 cu. WC we ran a pump besides.

I'm not sure I'm following that.

Wouldn't all that effort to increase fuel line capacity and fuel flow still be restricted at the float needle valve? I'm not doubting your diagnoses. Would just make more sense to me to open up the float needle valve hole a few thousands, before doing all that other jazz.

You aren't exactly right. One short restriction at the end will flow more than the same restriction at the first. Even Denny's sell a fuel delivery system like I tried to described.

Vic, FWIW, I worked for a CASE dealer for years, (50+) in fact, the later Backhoes used inline filters, we were a FleetGard dealer and their Case inline filters were very fine metal mesh rather than paper pleat, mesh would be better than paper in our application, they flow very well in the custom shutoff systems like most of us use. They would be for the 580 series E, K SK,M and came in different barb sizes in different series. I just blow mine out and reuse it but to each his own, as far as flow you do not even know they are there.
