Compression too much for stock starter?

I was told that once you've reached a certain psi of compression that you may need to upgrade your starter. Whether or not this is true, i don't know. Can anyone shed any light on this?

My Farmall M, since redoing the engine, has went from producing 115psi per cylinder to 200. My starter went out on me when I bought the tractor so I had it rebuilt. It went out again 1 year after after redoing the engine(last spring) and went out again recently.

I didn't know if there was any truth to what I was told, and if there was any, what kind of starter should I be looking for if I've reached that threshold.

It depends on the rules of where I'm pulling. I mostly run 110 race fuel but the local fair doesn't allow anything higher than 93.
 
Normally they don't, but if a couple certain individuals are there, they complain enough that they will. Most race fuels have a dye in it. What I run is purple in color.

Drain some from the carb bowl into a jar or white cup to check color other than normal gas. It's been a couple years since I last seen them do it....I just looked at the fuel chart for what I run and I don't see how they could now with the multitude of colors that race fuel could be. The difference in smell maybe.

excess of 200# running stock
starters. I wouldn't think that
there is s lot of difference in
starters. Are you using a true 12
volt starter or a 6? Are your
battery cables of adequate size to
carry the current? Is battery a high
amperage battery and well charged? Is
battery ground in a manner that gives
starter good ground? May consider
checking these before buying gear
reduction.

I got my starter back from the shop. There most recent work was still under warranty so they said they would look it over. They found no issue with it. I had already recently upgraded my small cables to larger ones as they had been over heating. I double checked all my connections and took a grinder to where it's grounded at and cleaned it up a little. The tractor fired up with little to no problem.
 
What about ignition? How many times does it have to turn over to start? Most of my tractors it is less than 4. If your ignition is not up to parr, or you are losing voltage to the ignition, that could be an issue. Which could brings you back to battery cables, connections, and battery selection.

I haven't checked the ignition system recently. It was gone through pretty thoroughly when the engine was rebuilt. That doesn't mean there isn't something wrong with it. Since getting the starter checked and checking the other connections and grounds it has been starting pretty strong. Cables have been increased in size also. Battery is less that 2 years old and is still good. I will go through my ignition though. Thank you for bringing that up.
