44 cylinder head

44 puller

Looking to rebuild a cylinder head for my massy 44 puller with an H260 4 cyl. before I tear the original one off. Are all H260 heads the same and is thear any advantage to installing larger valves, looking to build up the rest of the motor soon.

You need to be asking "Masseypuller" that question. I think he lurks around here once in a while and is very good with that engine, Maybe he'll pop in. Other than that I am sure there are others who will give there opinions also. mEl

All H260 / H277 (gas or LP) heads are the same with regards to performance characteristics. The only physical difference between the two is the location of the temperature gauge sender port. Other than this minor difference, they are fully interchangeable.

Larger valves really isn"t necessary until you are well over 350 cubes. From that point, the benefit of larger valves is proportional to the size of the engine over 350 cubes. I have built several 382 cubic inch versions using a stock head that had simply been ported. With a cam and some other tricks, this will make a very reliable 95HP at stock RPM.

Email me if you would like more info or want assistance with your cylinder head...

I have a 260 with the 4 1/16" M&W pistons and with a reground cam and marvel schebler carb got 67 HP on the dyno. I put new valve sin the head but used a valve seat that was narrower so once I had them installed i had about a 1/8" ridge of cast iron that I ported out of them. I also opened up the vertical portion of the manifold to match the diameter of the carb. I also had .250" planed off the head. I believe if I put roller rockers and an electric fan on it I could get to or above 70 hp. Maybe just removing that big windmill in front of the engine would get me there.
