Got and idea that the John Deere M has such a low gear , that I can beat the Allis Chalmers Wc that kick my tractor bad . What do I got to do to my M t? I,ve seen the results posted as far as distance , wonder what I got to do To ours ?

I started to build a MT. But instead built a 435 Diesel. It is competitive in the 3500 and 4000 lb. 3.5 mph top cut class National level. It has 100 hp. And a low gear 15 % faster. Problem is your motor is 4x4 bore and stroke. Or 100 cu. In. A wc is 4x4 but has 4 cylinders. They Allis engines can be bored and stroked to 430 cu. And I know of a 500. I pulled a 366 cu. WC over 25 yrs ago. Now if you could pull a 1010. Made in 1960. That motor isn't as good as a Allis. But it could be made 400 plus cu in. Also. With a M or MT front , would be competitive. You can make a B JD 400+ cu ins.

Thanks , here I thought I was going to get close or catch up to them in the 3000 or 3500 , but looks like that may not be achieved.
I read a 2009 post that they got their M up to 200 cubic inch ,was wondering how they did that?
Also if Allis guys can double their cu inch ,whats the point ? I just waste a lot to time and money .
I think ,That antique 3500 pound class is one you can get into some real mismatchs .
Dont think Ill do it .

JP Dunn's M is competitive.

6 stroke and 4 5/8 bore would make 2??. But if you were really serious. You might cut the cylinders off a M-430 block. Then bolt a B after market block and head to it. Wala! 400 cu They are thinking of doing it to RD 501 IH's. Maybe JP has already done it. He isn't a in the box kind of thinker.

3000 and 3500 was the thought . I dont know how much lighter it would go .2500 ?
But there are some massive cu in competition in 3500 .
I was impressed by the m , thought it was the extreme low gear , 1.6 mph .

2800 is about the end. The M-420 can be competitive on the right tracks do to its light weight and slower gearing. But if your up against big AC's a B would be a better start. The 420 engine has a 1/4" more bore and a lot better head, will bolt up

Dont see a lot of M size JDs pulling around here My buddy has one and pulls deadweight with us at a couple of the local fairs in 3500, worthless. Ive come in first at one of those pulls 10-12 years in a row with my super C, the other is also stone boat but in a sandy horse ring and an 8 foot chain. my tractor is a loser in those conditions but I still manage to beat his MT every time. runs good and theres nothing really wrong with the tractor, seems to me it has short tires, a small motor, funny gearing and a bad drawbar situation. He will be ahead of the guys pulling little ACs and the occasional IH A or B that cant make 2500, but the farmall Cs and JD Bs we pull with here just walk all over him. If I was you Id look into a another tractor or maybe try getting her down to 2500 and pull in 2nd gear

I ve pull a Farmall c in 3500 ,I get beat by 60 feet against Allis wc , mixed results against the M . So congratulations on your success with the C .
I like to pull dead weight also , where do you do that?

There are a few ACs here that can put up some good competition, and some good JD Bs as well. My super C is always a contender in our circle if we are not pulling in a sand pit and have a reasonably short chain, wide front end keeps the nose down and a nice tall set of 45* 13.6/36s will really bite in heavy wet soils its a treat to pull a transfer sled locally, usually have to travel around a bit for those. Wish I had more time for the far away pulls like we used to Most of the what I get out to is in west CT and eastern NY, usually I try to make some on the east side of CT as well. Ive pulled all over New England, have made a quite a few trips farther west and a south as well, but not as often as Id like anymore. How about yourself Dennis ?

Need a late 40 or better a 420/430 engine . The M connecting rods are weak .
A gas 440 engine will make an easy 33HP stock .

Have to use a turbo and a lot
Of rpm to make 100HP from a 2-53
. I thought my 435 making 46HP net
At PTO rpm was a powerhouse
