c-301 BUILD

What is best bore size , and compression ratio , and can the crank be offset ground as to gain stroke ? Is there a stock rod out of something that would work ? Thanks for any help !!

free advice, worth everything you paid for it...366 Chevy big block pistons. Offset grinding
can be done, use 135/153 rods. Compression depends on cam and fuel used, more is better to a point.

I helped on a 301 overhaul for a friend. It had 4 Chevy 350 pistons. With sleeves. They had a firering groove. It had stock rods. And a 5 HAPI crank. Needed a little grinding to turn. Give it .060 clearance. You will need to measure a little to get the right pin height. I would give the pistons .060 to head also. Depending on cam may need clearancing for the valves. Truck head is better. Doesn't need to be a 301. Smaller is ok. Also need rocker arms and pushrod. His has a tube intake manifold. It works best wrapped with header insulation. .

I assume you are talking about C-135 or C-153 rods . Is the side measurement the same and how much stroke do you gain . I'm using a SD 220 head with straight valves. Thanks for any help you can give me?

Using later C-135,153 rods gives a 4.67 stroke. Early rods from this series
have a 1.75 rod journal for greater gains. Don't know about journal width, bearing
supplier/machinist can probably help you out.
