Big Bore Kits for Oliver Super 55 Diesel

Hi, I have an Oliver Super 55 Diesel that I am going through, replaced clutches, bearing, seals, brakes, shafts, etc. The engine runs good but shot rings and low compression has be looking are rebuilding it. My engine has 3.5 pistons and I see sleeves and pistons come either 3-5/8 or 3-3/4. I am considering upping the bore to 3-3/4 for increased displacement and compression. I'm thinking higher compression would help low temperature starting and more power. I'm figuring you pullers could steer me right. Will higher compression increase power and better cold weather starting? Also can the American Bosch injector pump be calibrated for the increased cubic inch? Thanks in Advance, Charles
 
Be careful with the 3 3/4 set. You WILL need the proper head gasket for that bore size. If you use the regular gasket you WILL crack the sleeves when you tighten the head bolts. The regular head gasket can be used on a gas engine with the 3 3/4 set but not a diesel. There are more head bolts in a diesel engine and the torque is too much for the big sleeves. (BTDT) I tried it and had Old Faithful in about 20 seconds of run time. I took it apart and 2 sleeves were broken, 1 was cracked and 1 was still ok. I don't remember which position they were in. I put new Hastings rings on my 3 5/8 pistons and reinstalled the sleeves and pistons and have been pulling with it now for a few years. Maibach Oliver in Ohio can get you the proper big size head gasket, I have that in my 3 3/4 gas engine. You should also get the head rebuilt properly with new valves, seats and guides, have the valve depth on the intake valves set properly and then the exhaust valves set to match properly, makes them start better than when they were new. The details for the head work are in the Oliver manual. Don't forget to have fun with your Oliver!
