What is the lightest weight possible on a JD 4020 diesel if all hydraulic, PTO drive, wide front, steering valve and front cylinders, and rear cast wheel centers swapped
for steel?

How light you can get relates to how.heavy your pocket book is. Seriously what weight do you want to pull. 5000 5500 but I would start with a 4010. Can call it a 4020.

Im not sure about a 4020, but the 4010 guys around here are pulling in 6500 lb. classes with maybe 80 lbs. of movable weight. No rockshaft, tin wheels, narrow front. Depending on which final drives they have 6500 is tight.

My hot farm tractor which has a 4020 rear and was put on a considerable diet is around 7000lbs. With no driver on 24.5-32s with aluminum wheels. Could be a little lighter if you took out the inter cooler and water tank.

What weight class are you trying to make? And what type of class? Might be better off with a 4010 to start with or a 3020 rear if power levels arent crazy.

Back in 1969 this 4010 made the 5000 class..

Less than 10 years later this 4010 made the 5500 class with plenty of moveable weight.

Back in the mid seventies, I pulled against a fellow running a 4010 in a 5200 LB super stock class.
