Different pistons in John Deere h

Looking to use a different piston
in John Deere h for more
compression ( like pistons from
old Dodge truck or something like
that) or are you guys just making
rods longer ? Anyone champ up an h
for putting ? Any advice would be
greatly appreciated , thanks guys

We've tried it with limited success. I think it was with some IH truck engine pistons that fit. They have a higher dome for more compression. Didn't do anything to the rods. Put an aggressive grind on the cam and ported the head and manifold. More power than stock for sure but front end is to light and if you weight it down then your pulling with bigger hp tractors. Everything drives off the cam also so it is a time bomb if you really go big.

Can the "boys" get a H as big as a G--Asking for a friend---Tee

My first tractor--"H" John Deere. Was a Freshman in H.S.

You don't want to do the rods because you will get more compression but u lose one the air and fuel being pulled in. If u want more power you need to stroke the crank and change out the cam to match the stroke. If you do the cam there was some guys haring the cam gear so it don't brake.

Sure we can get an H as big as a G .......as long as the G is an alice Chalmers G !

To get power out of it if you cut the rods for more compression then you lose the fuel coming in because the piston don't come back as far. That's why when you stroke the motor you get more fuel coming in and higher compression.

Ok......

You don't "lose" anything. The swept volume is determined by the crankshaft stroke, not the connecting rod length. So if you lengthen the connecting rod, the piston travels the exact same distance as before, but is farther from the crankshaft at both top dead center AND bottom dead center.

There are many opinions of compression on a two cylinder, and I'm not going to open that can of worms.

Just where did you go wrong TEE? Most guys that start green stay green. Look how happy this guy looks sitting on a Big G, dreaming of that full pull he just had and waving admiringly at his fans. Don't get any better than that.

We might have 2 different sets on hand yet. One for sure that is 3 5/8's diameter. The other set might be a little smaller. $250 for the 2 pistons, rings, and pins if your interested. They will definitely make a difference in it and a cam grind will go a long way also. Don't bother trying to stroke it or lengthen the rods. Not much bang for the buck to do that.

Hey Mel--We still have some green ones we pull--Ray was working on one and I was sitting on the other today--Got them out of the semi and getting ready for this Fri.-Sat.---Tee

Those are pretty awesome too. Now we just need a place to pull. We have one at Monroe SD (40 miles southwest of SF) this Sat. at noon if the VAC is up to a road trip. Good pull and should be a big crowd.

We are going to a pull about 30 mi. away Fri and Sat--Ray says Cody and Chris are coming to enjoy the Iowa heat and take some of the Iowa $$$ home. The high temps are hard on a old man---Ray's Dad

Still have your "G" in my file--Stay cool

Here is a guy that didn't do half bad with a slightly warmed up GM

Yes that's true but it's not comeing back to the crank the length thats add to the rod and would stop not letting that little more fuel in for power. To much add to the rod and sure you will have good compression but when pulled hard they fall on there face.
