Farmall M Thermostat

I'm finishing up my Farmall M puller build, when I tore down the engine there wasn't a thermostat installed. I know that if it overheated when used in the field it would get removed to help cool the tractor down. Since the tractor is no longer being used in the field should I put one back in or just leave it out? Thanks.

you need some restriction, with water flowing too fast, it has no time to pick up "heat",use a washer with halh inch hole - tractor does need some warmth in engine before full power,
