sealing sleeves

When boring a block for bigger than stock sleeves, how do you seal the bottom of the sleeve? The O-ring groove is in the block, so if that groove is cut out how is the best way to seal it?

lots of times the actual sleeve is bored as original ones are thick. what engine is this?

Exactly what I m wondering, what engine are you working with?

Depending on the sleeve thickness we always cut them for a small cross section o-ring. Trick was to us an o-ring slightly smaller and stretch it to fit.

I ve heard of sometimes using a .001" press fit on the bottom and some sealant or rtv.

Sounds like it could be a 404 deere bored out for 466 sleeves or bigger.

I have tried the small o-rings. I was
cutting them putting the sleeves in. I
finally just got smaller o'rings and used
soft hand soap and put the sleeves in. I
put three bottles of stop leak in the
block and let it set for a couple of
weeks. Should have just used 2. Almost
stopped my top radiator up. But it has
made 6 runs down the track and hasn't
leaked yet. Also I drilled and tapped
every water passage in the head and block.
So don't need a head gasket. Just fire
rings. Around the sleeves.

Here is a picture. These sleeves are 1/2" bigger.

Lots of times when you bore the block the bottom
grooves in the block are gone, they have grooves
cut in the bottom of the sleeve and your orings still
go there. I?ve been told ih tractors or like their 466
engine, grooves are in sleeves not the block

This is in a CC Case. A non-pressure cooling system. I`ve heard of just using silicone to seal at the bottom in place of O-rings.

The DT466 block in my 1466 IH puller is over bored to 4.750...The custom built sleeves have 3 small o-rings in them..# 2 hole kept shaving some material off the o-rings
when installing the sleeve and it was leaking...A puller friend recommend that I use Dike sealer by Conklin and I pulled all last year with no problems.
