bone stock 77

Attached is clip of my 77 pulling in 4500 pound class. Little light on the front, but it did o/k. They make us wear helmets now even for stock classes. Assume for insurance reasons. It seems this is a Ontario Canada thing as I don't see too many others enforcing helmet in stock classes? In some respects I think it is almost safer without it as I cant hear what the tractor is doing. Is there a reason I cant think of that warrants wearing helmet in stock classes?

Your balance looks perfect to me. I suppose that the insurance company could do worse than requiring helmets.

My 2 cents is, it spun out because it came up. 100# on the front might have been helpful. Helmets for stockers is way overkill. gm

if you don't transfer weight all along and come up more towards the conclusion of the pull, you have left some distance on the table. happy new yrs.

The balance looked pretty good to me, congrats. At some point when power exceeds traction forward motion stops and the wheels spin.

Concerning your helmet and hearing: I suspect your helmet is a motorcycle helmet and reducing wind noise is a big plus for motorcycles at speed. On my motorcycle, I wear a snug fitting full face helmet and also ear plugs. I find the higher priced helmets have better fitting padding and are much better at noise reduction. In addition full face helmets tend to be quieter than open face. So, a looser fit (within reason) open face (if allowed) with not so plush padding may be more to your liking. The shell is what protects you not the padding.

I would say it runs pretty good for a stock tractor, maybe a touch light on the nose, but not much, assuming you had the hitch at maximum allowable height. If you had been able to steer it, you might of been able to stay away from the out of bounds and maybe pulled another foot or two.

Your 77 looks pretty well balanced to me...I've kicked myself for not bidding
on this stock 77 Oliver puller that sold in November for $1350..Had a good set
of 14.9's on it with pressed steel wheels...

If I could grab a forty pounder from a sky hook and hang it on the front it would probably help and I might gain 2-3 feet. However, I don't have that capability. In order to put one on the front I would have to remove it from the back and then I would loose 5-6 feet.

I don't see a stock tractor here with the big rear tires on it and looks like he pulled in 2 gear. A lot of 77 came stock with 13.6 38. Looks like 14 38s or 15 38s an the 77 would of power out.

JDman, cheese head good eye tires are bigger, and power is not an issue,- yeah ya ya ya, all stock,I have chatted with many guys that say all stock, then when questions tell the truth, M&W pistons, enhanced ignition, with next bigger sized carb, ect.

I have pulled with a 77 with the up date kit in pistons and there a good tractor for pulling. With some time and money a guy can make a really good power out of them like a lot of tractors. I 4500 pound on a good track in 2 gear 15 percent over rps it would run out of power with 13 38s on it.

There are lots of different types of helmets available for many different applications. What do your rules require? Even if DOT approved helmets are required, a shorty style would not cover your ears.

O/K you are right about tires. They are 18.4 x 34. Motor is stock. Track is mostly crushed stone. I figure that is why I spun out. Good clay track and different story. I was the test puller so thought I would try 2nd gear. Next hook I ran 1st gear went a lot farther, but I am pretty sure they changed sled?
