farmall 460

A month ago I posted about purchasing a 1958 Farmall 460 with a C301 motor. A beautiful well taken care of pulling tractor. Still looking to purchase it. It was brought to my attention that the rear ends don't hold up to the extra power and 18x4x34 tires. Is there any truth to this? I have not seen an issue like this myself. Thanks. Any info greatly appreciated.

Shouldn?t be a problem at all. 100?s of them out there pulling with more tire and a lot more engine. Just don?t weight it down heavy, hook a 5 bottom plow to it and try plowing an old hay field. I haven?t seen that successfully done.😀

Lee wanting to pull up to 7,500,ocassionaly 8,500. What do you think? Also, standard axle was 2 and a half inches. This axle is 2 and three quarters.

It seems like most places never pull that heavy of a class. I just can?t imagine you having any problem. Is this a cut tire? If so you could run out of power at that weight if you pull over 4 mph. Like I said before if it?s a good price I would go for it. I just don?t think you can go wrong.

Colonel, I think that you could run into problems pulling that heavy with your 460. They usually pull way lighter. Pulling competitions are usually not hard on a tractor because they are usually entered weighing far less than when they were working on the farm.

Most 460's in my area pull at 4500,5000,5500 lbs...The heaviest class we usually run is 6500 so cant help you much...

First 460's had 2.5 inch axle standard and 2.75 optional. Same as 350. Shortly all 460's came with bigger axle. Pulling in higher gear and light rear end will stand up. Not in 1st or 2nd weighted down!
