Question for the guys pulling hot 5010's and 5020's. What is all involved in making the trans a strong 4 speed? We destroyed the high range gears and want something strong and a little faster. We had changed 5th to a 7 1/2 gear for our 18 mph class. But we would like to have a few more choices and a little faster 8th gear.

I'm not sure on a 4 speed but if you do a 3 speed you'll eliminate the low side of the top shaft. The high side gear will drive the countershaft and you will have 3 pulling gears to choose from on the pinion. The stock reverse will need to be welded to the top shaft and stock gear it meshes with will need to be retained on the pinion. The downfall of a 3 speed is the lack of a pit or loading gear.

Tractors should be winched on and off the trailer for safety anyways .
No shame in using a tow tractor to move a puller around the grounds and pits .
