Design Suggestions on Building Dead Weight Sled

Looking to build two sleds for dead weight pulling, one for on dirt and one for on cement. I have a supply of 1/4" steel plate to work with in sheets 46 inches wide by 20 foot long. The one for
cement thinking of putting wood on bottom of plate. How big? How long? How long of chain? Maybe run two I beams length of sled about 36 inches apart? What do you suggest?

You are not building a sled you are building a stone boat. I don't think that you want the wood under there. You would probably need a concrete pad 100 feet long or a boat twenty feet long if you do.

local club uses wood boat on concrete. works well.
I have pulled boat with runners on concrete and takes
a lot of weight. Pulled 700 percent once and 500 percent
often.

Off the top of my head based on what I pull on, typically the sled for dirt is about the width of whatever size concrete blocks you?re using, roughly 6? for us, and around 10? long. Weld about a 6-8? strip on either side where the hooks will be pointing at a 45 upward, and a 3? or so strip on the long edges parallel to the sled to keep the sled from digging in. For concrete I?d recommend using wood 4x4s or 6x6s, roughly the same dimensions, as the dirt boat, maybe a little longer because you?ll need room for more weight. I?ve only ever seen wood used for cement. Longer chain for cement.
