International D282 Injectors

Working on a D282/301. Has anybody reworked the head to run direct injection, not the precup type? Seems like an adapter could be made to adapt pencil type injectors or even 300/400 series IH injectors and extend them down to the cylinder chamber with a little machining. There are a few 560 diesels pulling so someone likely has an improvement solution. (besides running a 466)

I'm pretty sure this one had direct injection back in the mid-late 1970's..Its the "Charlies Angel" 460 owned by Charlie Hagedorn from Barnes,Kansas..His mechanic Dale Rothlisberger is driving in this picture at Winfield,KS in 1975.....I think that there were several other 460-560 diesel pullers running direct injection back then so it can be done..Meritt Royalty in Ohio was probably one of them..
 
I was wrong on direct injection. wouldn't it be easier to swap a 360 I 560? it easy swap and lot of performance parts cheap. and a 360 wpould be more durable
 
I'm pretty sure he bought that tractor from Lonnie Sapp from around the Ashland, MO. area;
And I'm sure Raymond Jackson down on 54 between Collins and Eldo. Spgs. MO. can tell you anything
there is to know about a 460 D. gm
 
Thanks for the replies. I talked him into looking for a 312 or 360 replacement. We just got back with a very tired 312 and a D360 from a 766 that the owner switched to a 466. Package deal and a very nice price. Should be a nice runner when we get it all together. Some "farming" and a little pulling.
