John Deere B question

So hypothetically, if a person has a B in the family and was considering pulling it dead weight only, what hp would you guess it would produce if it were an early styled B with the larger factory stroke, block bored to accept over the counter high compression 50 pistons, custom ground cam, reasonable amount of head work, all things such as governor and carb as it should be, and tuned on a dyno????? Also, anybody pull a set up like this??? ....if so, does it hook well or not a great tractor to start with? Thank you!

Assuming its a 6 speed B, it will pull stone boat just fine in stock form. Not a whole lot of reason to do motor work for dead weight pulling as 1st gear is painfully slow and theres no reason to pull stone boat in any gear but 1st.

A few old farts on here will try tell you its the worst possible tractor to pull with. I personally think there great especially if you already have one in the family! Realistically 40hp for the build your talking.A bigger crank will add significantly to the hp. Ofcourse other brands might be cheaper to get that kinda hp from, main thing is have fun & enjoy the sport!

The only reason to build up a low gear tractors motor like a JD B for dead weight pulling is to get into classes you have no business in. Like 8000lbs class. Thats when people break things pulling stone boats weighing 16,000 lbs.

He states its early styled B, that has a 3
spd trans w a high/low & no low 1st gear.
The late B w staight 6 spd trans had the
ultra low 1st gear!

Actually the early styled (39-40) had 2spd same as unstyled, mid year Bs (41-46) had 3spd & late (47-52)had the 6spd

for the b guy I have a powerblock rods and pistons that need to be somewhere someone can use them, they are just sitting and I have no need even though I traded for them.

So then I would ask what classes he wants to pull. With stone boat your always going to be in first. Completely different animal than transfer sled.
In my club a B would hold its own up to 5500 stone boat pulls. Late styled B will do 6500. Thats a long chain stone boat.
So his club specifics really matter. Sure you can build the engine. You can dump $20k into it if you want. But it might not be required.
