301 Pulling engine

I have a 301 engine. My engine has sleeves in it what looks to be the stock piston size. The sleeve looks as if the block is bored to 4 inch. anyone know if I can get over bore piston sleeve set close to 4 inch that will fit in my block 4 inch wholes. Maybe step piston etc for pulling Thanks

301IH where sleeve less with a standard bore of 3 13/16 then could be bored over I think 30 over for sure and maybe more.

Studying into this the motor came out of a 806 IH 301 motor. I think it maybe be lp has C on it and the head reminds me of a far-
mall M propane head. Whats confusing is the motor has sleeves. Looks like If I took sleeves out there would be a 4 inch hole in the
block if its not damaged. Thoughts???

Just my opinion. No 301 that I know of had sleeves. Sometime in the past it had to have been bored & sleeved. Why, who knows. Many pullers have bored them to 4" and ran custom pistons. Some have gone a little bigger but that can get iffy. I bored my c263 block to 3 15/16 and run sleeveless, no problems.

Beavis, if you are going pulling you should think about picking up an old pre electronics school bus DT466. Thats what the guys that you will be hooking against have.

Have a friend has a 4 x 4.89 .368 cu. It is
bored out and has sleeves with 4.020 chevy
pistons. And a 1/2" stroker crank. 4.89.
Its a really good 6 mph tractor. But can't
run with the big blocks.

Anybody know what piston to order? or where to order pistons and sleeves? for the 301 engine out of 806.

You will have to find a local machine shop to bore and sleeve your block or call Murphy's or someone like them. Its hardly ever as easy as ordering a piston from something else and it a bolt in fit. The pin will be different. And may need a few thousandths cut off the top, and valve reliefs. Valve springs, rocker arms, camshaft, degreeing it. On my Allis motor I looked for hours and finally narrowed it down to a Cat piston. But it is about 3/16 to high and takes a 1.650 piston pin instead of a 1.50 and takes a tapered rod. Besides the rods hit on both sides and the cam! Not for the faint of heart.

Before you spend alot of time & money I would pull the old sleeves to see what is under them. Then I agree with Vic and call Jeff at Murphy?s to pick his brain. He is pretty good and very helpful.

Vic is that where your propane heater sits when it is heating? or is it on the bench for maintenance? It looks exactly like mine.

He's talking about a 466 diesel. It takes a adapter plate. And a little frame work. No steps for a stepper.

301s didn't have sleeves. are you sure it is a 301 or was it bored and sleeved to be repaired. I am betting it not a 301, you may want tp check numbers on block. I know a guy sent a 806 to auction with a 221 in iT After he took 301 out
