70 power block

Just finished reading a 2006 discussion about modifying a 70 for serious pulling. A power block was weighed against modifying a stock block to get a bigger bore. Has anyone on this site done something like this?

How about a custom casting with a 7” or 7.5” bore . Bolt pattern can be custom patterned To fit a G, 70 or 720/730 wedge head with the plugs in the head .

Not done it, but I've seen Ray of Extreme tractor parts blocks heads and cranks. 8 inch bore 10 inch stroke. It will take a while to put a big JD together. Getting it light is the name of the game. Pipe axles, cutting bull gears in half, billet gear shafts, getting rid of all the cast on the front, fan shaft, acid dipping the rear housing. It goes on and on. I think it was last year, I went to the Baddest G in the world pull at Greenville Il. It was great! 30 some G's ,most of them idleing at once. Ron K. Can't spell his name, won.

Try Murphys Motor Service in Hallsville, Mo. they have 7.50" blocks, billet cranks, heads and manifolds for the G's/70's and its all quality stuff.

Thanks for the reply's was more curious about using stock block getting her out to say 6.5" bore. If it is possible to sleeve it to 7" bore that too would be a consideration. The last thing is gaskets wonder who might have those. I have talked to both Murphy's and Extreme now have a 6-3 block to work up for our 60.

I don't want to badmouth anyone but please do ask some of your pulling buddies about buying parts from one of these sources.

Yes, you can easily go out to 6.5 inch bore with a 70 gas TSC "Powerblock" . Here is an example of a six and five eighths bore 1951 G with a 8 inch stroke running a 70 gas powerblock that had the old sleeves pressed out and then had the casting bored some to
accept steel sleeves with a bigger outside diameter soas to maintain cylinder wall thickness. Three Viton O-rings are used on each sleeve and an aluminum shim was placed as you can see that makes the overall length of the block the same length as a stock G block.

Going to the 10 bolt headbolt set-up also ends blown headgasket problems and cracked headbolt bosses as long as there is no detonation allowed .
