I am looking at a 2011 ford powerstroke crew cab. My question is: what is the difference in weight compacity between a single rear tire & a dually? I currently own a dually & pull about 12,000 max, including goose neck weight. I'm thinking about a single tire axle due to it being narrower & easier to get around. However, I feel like the dually has better stability & distributes the load on 4 rear tires (I guess it would roll easier also). I know some of you pull a trailer a lot more than I do & was looking for opinions. Thanks in advance!

My dually is 11,500 gvwr, F250 is 10,000. If you have a good deal of weight on the truck, duals are beneficial. Most single wheel 3/4 or 1 ton trucks have larger tire size than a dually. That is a benefit of having near as much tire contact single as dual. Any of them can be overloaded.

I haul that much with my 2016 F250. Its 10,000 gvw. I just make sure I load the tractor in the right spot to balance the load well, and drive with sense. A dually would be more stabil, but singles works fine.

I thought it was interesting- before this truck I had a 2008 F350 single rear wheel. Same exact gvw as my new 250, but the 350 felt much more solid with the load. Must be how the springs are set up. Next truck will be a 350 again, single rear.

I legally pull a max loaded 22,400 gooseneck with my SRW F-350 with 6.0. Never any issues with tires, handling, or stopping. Because of the lower axle weight the SRW has higher net load capacity. I of course have a lot more of my load on the trailer than on the truck, just as any of the thousands of single axle road tractors pulling tandem axle van trailers.

I have pulled trailer for years with single tired truck but always had an uneasy feeling. I went this year to a dual wheeled older F450 Super Duty and don't have that uneasy feeling and truck very stabile.

I had an uneasy feeling one time while pulling my 22,400 with a full load down the interstate well after dark. Suddenly it dawned on me that I hadn't seen or felt anything of the trailer in quite awhile. I quickly looked back and saw the lights. It was just following along smooth as can be.

I pull a 15000 srw trailer with a 10000 lb.f250. I have pulled a dual rear wheel 24000 lb. Trailer. Can tell it is heavier and shakes the truck more. My truck has air bags so can make it sit level what ever the load. You will be fine.

How do you have your F250 set up to weigh 11,000 lbs? My F450 with fuel tanks full and tool box with tools, other equipment and and the rack to carry steel and it weighs only 8,500lbs.

I?ve hauled with both single wheel and dual wheels and I like the duals a lot better . If I could load pics I would

That's how my '08 f350 would pull a
trailer. Go over a bridge on the interstate
and you wouldnt even know a trailer was
hooked up. I loved that truck, didnt love
the 5.4 gas engine though. Found my '16
f250 diesel on a used lot with 20,000
miles. Gvw was the same, figured it would
act the same but have power this time. Had
to put airbags on the f250 to level it up
with a load though, and even with them
pumped up it just doesn't feel as solid to
me as my 350 did. All kinds of power
though! Man does that thing go. Also has an
exhaust brake, 6 speed automatic, and gets
17 mpg when empty. It's an upgrade for
sure, just wish I had my old 350's rear
springs!

Any single wheeled F350 in the last 10 years weighs From factory about 7,000 lbs. or less. Where would you pickup 4,000 lbs.? Like I said the F 450 Super Duty 0n certified scale with fuel tanks full, toolbox full of jacks, oil, tools and tire wrenches. The bed is built twice as heavy as a standard flat bed to carry that rack to carry steel weighs 8,500 lbs..
