I'm going to try and pull this tractor some, and am wondering what classes I should start in. Tracks are all local red clay events.

It has new 16.9 x 38 Firestone 151s on the back.

What other mods can be done on a reasonable budget, say $3000?

thanks

I would get rid of the new tires and get some old hard road worn half or less tread tires. That would help you as much as anything. New tires are soft and lugs lay back under a pull.

Eldo is exactly right, the first mistake most make is buying new tires to pull with. Tires with 1/2 to 5/8" tread and a nice backcut where allowed will do well on most tracks. Tires that have leaned up against the corn crib in the sun for a few years to dry out the rubber are even better. Also tractor setup is vital but thats a whole other argument. mEl

The tires are 6 years old they have just been inside. I realize that older harder tires are better but the tractor came with these tires, and they will have to do for now till I can find others.

I am working on getting the hitch height and lenght / distance from center of rear axel. This tractor came set up half azzed as a puller in the 10,000 and 10,500 classes with 40 weights.

The weight brackets were hung willy nilly in hard to access places. I am starting over in that regard. Spent Aug-Nov pulling a barn fresh 70 JD in 7-7.5 and 8,500 classes learning set up and weight placement. Frst ever pull was 210 ft. and last pull of the year was 285 ft. All on the same track in very similar conditions as far as track conditions / moisture content went. The only changes made were to the hitch placement and weight brackets. Nothing mechanical.

I'm looking more towards internal engine mods. The heads will see some attention as will the cam. Looking for people that wouldn't mind pointing me towards the right people to talk to and or do business with.

Thanks

What weight and speed are you wanting to pull? I think you may be short on hp at 3-4 mph above 6000lbs. Send e-mail we can talk
