just recently got a 460 gas put together with a 301, a big cam and some head work.. pulled it yesterday and got to the end of the track and spun out in 2nd gear. pushed in the clutch and tried to get it out of gear.. it was jammed.. the skid operator had to move the sled towards me to let me shift. later it did it to me again when i was just moving the tractor back on the trailer... i have 5 gals of rear end fluid and the ta is not working... What could be causing this?

the end of your shifter rod is worn you can either weld it up or get a new one

My 560 has done the same thing. Get caught between two gears. Have to rock it back and forth to get it to pop out. Sometimes I have to take the shifter out and use a big screwdriver or bar to shift the forks around. The root of the problem is the end of your shifter is getting worn down

Even though you say the TA doesnt work, next time it hangs in gear pull the TA and I bet you will be able to get it out of gear then.

The fix is to make sure the clutch is properly adjusted.

I agree with Drew Unless you have taken it out your ta has a sprag bearing which is a one way bearing, it is not letting your trans back up enough to release pressure on the gears to come out of gear. A moline or oliver will do the same thing. You can't hardly shift a big Moline unless the torque is back.
