Usually I like to break everything down into torque ratings, but for discussion's sake, I was wondering what horsepower was required to be competitive in Div 2 or Div 3 classes at different weights. (Just say moderate rpm like 1700-1900 range.) I have a good idea, but it's fun to keep ears open and see what folks think. Thanks.

Here in Ohio a lot of the Div 3 have went back to Div 2 so the there are a LOT of 100 hp plus engines running in that class. You need 150 or more to be competitive in Div. 3 more like 200.

4000 to 6500 Div.4s and 5s going to Div.3 and 3s to 2 and 40 to 70hp 2s are staying home.

I"m not sure your going to get the answers your looking for !

I"m going to take a stab at it and say.

Div 2 60 to 90 hp.

Div 3 as much as your wallet can afford...

Tractor set up is just as important as the power.

I agree to the balance and traction being the most important thing.I pull a stock 630 in 8500 and 9500 farm stock 5mph class and always finish in the top 5 or so. put your power to the ground and you will be competitive.

So I guess we are talking 3 to 4 mph. I just have experience in the 3500 to 4500 classes. I think I have 65 hp. In a 435jd or 2-53 detroit or 106 cu in I pull in 1st gear and It doesn't go but 4.5 mph no load speed. And I will maybe scare some really powerfull tractors, even in the 6 mph class. I powered out last pull at Ramsey Il. in the 4500. but still got 2nd. There was maybe 10 in that class. What I'm saying is, Its not all hp but the right tires and balance.

i don't know div.'s, but i know in a 3mph and under 6000lbs, u can do it with 50 hp and be in there, and 65hp up to 8000lb, then 80+ on up to the 13000. if you wanna go 6+mph, you need to get in the 100hp range in the 6000 and under, and 150hp for anything else from what i've seen. all with 16.9 or 18.4x38's
