E99 works pretty good in a few pullers around here. I've been thinking of switching over to it. I currently run 116 with some stuff mixed in it. makes for a real funny smell but it really works good.

we have run everything from toulene to methanol and everything in between...seems to me that e85 is about the easiest "cheap" fuel, with av gas a close second. but spark knock is the biggest thing with the av gas...and the e85 doesn't for the most part. methanol is too hard on stuff and runs about the same power as e85.

Kind of a loaded question. Depends on your motor, bore, RPM, compression ratio, timing, and general combustion chamber.

If you're running low compression, use whatever works where it doesn't knock. Use 91 octane if you can. If it's in the 10-11:1, Cam2 will probably work. Once you get above that with bigger bores/lots of timing, you need some VP C16 or equiv.

Airplane food is 100LL and you can get it at most small local airports. If you have a little more compression than 91 will handle, you can try that too.

My Deere (6.125" Bore) drinks a lot of alcohol. Straight E-85 at 11+:1 compression, but you have to be careful, it takes a LOT more fuel to make it right. Also hard to tell if you are rich or lean without proper instrumentation.

I have a 4.25 bore 9.5 comp piston over stock rpm and slicked up head. Do you have to use an additive with E85 for upper cyclinder lub.

I use 112 Torco, I would like to switch one puller with 10 to 1 comp to e85 or e99 but so far haven's been brave enough yet, several guys are running e85/99 with good results

Doug, where are you finding E99? Even E-85 isn't always 85% ethanol. Depends on where you are and what time of year it is. Winter blends have more gas in them.

I think you can find E99 in the liquor isle in the grocery store....look for the bottle that says "grain alcohol" :-)
