861diesel fuel pump

Hi all,
Wondering if someone could tell me how to best clean and paint my Ford diesel fuel pump. It s a 58 861 diesel. I think the pump works fine and I ve scraped off some of the grime, but I don t want to get any remaining dirt or oil into the pump seals. How do I best clean and degrease it? I m willing to use a tooth brush and some elbow grease but I just don t want to damage it somehow.
 


my experience is that it comes off pretty good by itself. FYI they came from the factory unpainted, because like the distributor they were added after the chassis was painted.
 
I've used Mean Green with scraper and brush
and rinsed off with a garden hose. Just
keeping it wet with a spray bottle will eat
at the grime but a small brush speeds up
the process.
