John Deere 60 Should I paint my axle? If so what color?

Alright everyone I am just about to purchase tires for my 60 the only thing holding me back is prepping and painting the rims and by extension the wheels, however I encountered something which perturbed me.

Along with my wheels and rims my rear axles are also painted yellow and yet looking through the countless pictures on line I see them both painted yellow and some black.

To further compound the issue my father and I got into a debate over if I even needed to paint the axle at all his argument for this was that painting it could mess with wheel adjustments and that most of the tractors I had seen with black painted axles might not have been painted at all.

So my question boils down to. "Should my axle be painted at all? If so, what color and are their any hurdles to worry about while doing it?"

Just my opinion, but I think that they were originally phosphate coated, the same as PTO shafts, and your impact wrench sockets.

No paint. Just spray them with black thread spray. Then if
you need to adjust them the spray is thin and allows for
movement. Looks good also. It will look like paint but its
not. Did that in my 560.

No paint axles.. Clean and degrease axles down to bare metal.. Cold gun blue ??
stops rust, looks good..

Some considered painted axles better to move wheels than rusty axles, no
paint. Neighbor painted the axles on tractor he took to first or second
Expo in Iowa When he got they they would not let him unload until he went
downtown and bought a can of paint and a brush and painted them to what
the expo management thought was correct, yellow or black I don't remember.
He never went to any more expo's. As even a visitor let alone an exibitur.
He passed away a couple of years ago after nursing home could not find him
in secure alshimer ward and later they found him floating in pond on the
grounds. Never did figure how All doors locked as supposed to be along
with windows. how he got out. Think he cansled his membership in club
because of that. Would have been in the time John T started writing for
the 2 cylinder mag.

I have painted yellow and black both. If they stick out a ways
black. The latest utility tractor was just a stub so I picked
yellow. The 2 cylinders I thought looked a bit better in black
but Im sure they came unpainted. Most customers say you
pick when asked. I heard of a guy sandblasting to bare metal
putting the rim on and then shooting clear over
everything...personally flat black seems easiest to me
