Painting inside of wheels

I am currently restoring a 44 john deere A just got the wheels back from being sandblasted. Found some holes in them unfortunately but i think i can just weld the pin holes. I was wondering besides from just doing the obvious and spraying them with some kind of rustoleom primer. Is there any other tips on what to use for painting the inside of the rim?

I prefer over a cleanly, sand-blasted surface, a couple coats of self-etching primer. It's a no-nonsense approach and with a thorough topcoat of enamel, will last way beyond when you and I die.

No one will confirm, strictly my own observation, use at your own risk. Painting, using only paint, minutes after sandblasting makes a finish that's tough as nails. Use the money saved on the primer and spend it applying another coat of paint. The finish will not be glass smooth.

I think if it were me I would fill the pin holes with JB weld and then epoxy prime the inside of the wheels. The epoxy primer would prevent the wheels from rusting again.

Depends on how good a job they did. When I went to pick a pair up they had black spots here and there. I got them to do a little more blasting. Even so there were some small black spots. I assume that the black is rust just waiting to get a protective coating of paint applied over it so that it could eat my rims in peace. I use rust converter and then primer. Rust does well enough without me helping it along.

You should prime fairly soon after sand
blasting. Just humidity from the air, will
get rust going again.

I'd put atleast one layer of paint over the
primer. Once dry, I'd powder on some baby
powder before mounting tube and tire. It'll
prevent the rubber from sticking to the
painted surface during mounting. Especially
the tube.

here is a thread on Headlight restoration that describes using fiberglass to seal pinholes. I have done it on car fenders with good results. Nice strong corrosion resistant repair and the outer surface cleans up well without much need for filler. I am assuming here that we are not talking anything structural, just some isolated pinholes on an otherwise sound wheel. The forces on the wheel from the air pressure alone are tremendous. I would use at least 2 layers of glass and would wrap the entire surface.

I would also take Showcrop's advice on using a rust converter. I'm pretty sure he is talking about an iron phosphate coating, which is what you get using phosphoric acid. Iron phosphate will prevent flash rusting and does enhance adhesion. Rust converters in general do work well.
