Restoring 44 john deere A

I started a restoration project about 4 months ago on a 44 john deere A. This tractor was missing quite a few parts so my main concern was going thru everything and getting it running. Painting the tractor while I had it broke down kind of slipped my mind. Mind you this is my first restoration project ever. Long story short I have a lot of the tractor put back together and I'm not willing at this point to break it back down. And I know sand blasting a running tractor is a bad idea. Was wondering what people think about painting the hard to reach places as I go and maybe hitting the entire tractor with a good primer over top of old paint after it's done and painting it from there? There isn't a whole lot of paint on the tractor anyway and the little it does have isn't flaking or anything

Look at a "redbelly" Ford. Take only the parts off from your A that correspond to anything that is not red on the Ford. Clean, prep and paint that, which is often called the "bare chassis". Clean and paint the parts that are off, then assemble.

(quoted from post at 08:41:51 03/12/23) It is your tractor . Paint it and do not worry second asses . Kevin .

Well that is not very nice after Tstoner asked. Was wondering what people think about painting...................

I like Sherman Williams advice ,90 percent of a good paint job is its preparation.

Do the best you can with the means you have. Dont cut corners. You dont want redos. Following paint mfg. directions.

A war years tractor paint probably was not that good quality anyway . So we today have much better quality restoration products .

Yesterdays has paints offered of high quality .

Its all right to use a brushes in hard to reach areas . I use a brush on castings with proper thinning with good results and hard to reach
areas.

Youll do fine

thanks for the reply. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to painting. I'm not looking for show room quality paint job was just more or less curious about painting Over top of old paint and weather or not it would look blotchy since maybe half of the tractor has paint and other half does not. Once the weather warms up a bit I will power wash it and clean really good and go from there
