JD Classic Green spray can question

I m repainting the side panels on my 2510 and have applied three coats of the Classic Green from a rattle can. How much time before I can wet sand? The can says 36 hours to dry, but do I need to wait that long or can I start removing the slight orange peel sooner?
Thanks
Todd

The short answer is wait as long as you can. Because the John Deere paint is an alkyd enamel, it dries by evaporation. Putting the parts in a warm spot with air movement will speed up the
process.

If you allow each of the three coats to dry and it's hot and dry where you are you could wet sand after letting it dry
overnight. If it's cool and or damp it might take a week. As a general rule if you can press your thumb on the paint
hard and not leave a finger print it's dry enough to wet sand as long as you do it gently. If you rub hard with the
sandpaper it can roll up the paint and peal it off like tape. Now, usually with rattle can paint it contains acetone. If
you spray another coat on too soon, especially after sanding the three coats you applied can wrinkle up like you put
paint stripper on it. Be sure to read the instructions on the can of paint and if is says something like put all the
coats on within an hour or wait a couple days don't spray it. Usually after sanding you have to wait more than triple
the drying time listed on the can. Trust me, it's worth the wait.

Last coat went on yesterday around 3:00 pm. I let it sit in the sun until dark and then brought it inside. RH is 38-41 percent and temp is 77 degrees F. I guess I ll wet sand tomorrow.

You have to be careful putting paint in the sun. It can skim over and build up solvent fumes under the paint and make
large bubbles.
