urethane paint repair

I painted my 8N ford with urethane paint and when I rubbed it out
I burned through on the ribs on one side of the hood. Is there a way to repair, blend in, the paint on that side or do I have to repaint the hood? Thanks

You should be able to blend it. Mask off around the area to an edge in the sheet metal if possible. Clean thoroughly to remove any polishing compound, oil and silicone. Prep the area by
sanding the area out a ways so the paint will bite. Follow-up may require some careful sanding with 1000 or 1500 sandpaper and then polish.

You can soften the edge of your masking by taping the paper down so that it lies OVER the area of the repair then roll it back over itself. The curve in the paper will give it a soft edge.

Assuming it's a single stage urethane you can just choke the sprayer down and more or less airbrush a spot. You need to put several coats on because you will have to rub it out again to eliminate where you started and stopped. You might do most of the rubbing by hand
to prevent going through it again.

if it is a base clear urethane, you can do a solvent blend with the clear. if it is a single stage urethane and you are looking for a show quality, i would
skeetch the whole hood with a red scotchbrite, wax and grease remover , tack rag it and re shoot it. you will see a blend on single stage.
