HPLV or High Compression sprayers to paint tractor

It's time for me to purchase a new sprayer. I had one high pressure sprayer that worked for me for many years but now it's time to replace it. I'm not what I call a restorer. I clean the best I can and prep and go for my own satisfaction. (Want the paint to hold up for use.

Could I use a HPLV sprayer while painting the bottom of the chassis? OR would it be best to use a conventional high pressure sprayer type?

I'd really like to know the advantages of both types prior to making a purchase.

The sprayer you use would largely depend on the kind of paint you use. If you plan to use automotive paint then a HVLP sprayer would be good. Automotive paint is as thin as water and the HVLP sprayer makes a finer mist of the paint. It could be connected to a
pressure pot to spray the underside however I wouldn't try to spray the entire tractor with a pressure pot. They tend to put out a little too much volume and you would have problems with runs. Myself, I don't spray automotive paint very often so I prefer a
conventional sprayer. I'm painting a tractor right now with a cheap HF siphon sprayer and using an alkyd enamel. I have the tractor high enough off the ground I can spray upward to paint the bottom. This is something you couldn't do with a gravity sprayer, the cup
would get in the way.

The tractor I'm painting right now is a Kubota. The frame is a dark blue and the sheetmetal is a light orange. I had painted the sheetmetal in 2009 with Rustoleum Farm & Implement paint and you would have to look hard to see the fading on it. At that time I didn't
want to paint the frame because there was too much to mask off so I skipped that. This is what I'm painting now. In 2009 I also painted a Case tractor with Dupont Nason which is an automotive urethane paint. It's not holding up as well as the Rustoleum paint I put
on the Kubota.

I've been using this HVLP paint gun from Harbor Freight, make sure you clean it real good before you use it.

I am not a restorer either. I use low end automotive 2K urethane. I have two HVLP guns from HF and one old siphon. The HVLP puts a lot less mist in the air and more where you want it. For small jobs the HVLP uses every drop so you don't have so much left over to pour out. I painted underneath no problem. I have an elbow coming out of the gun so that I don't need room for hose below it. The subject of quality and HF paint guns comes up here every now and then, and to me the overwhelming response is that they work nearly as well as guns that cost four times more.
