Off color Massey Ferguson

I almost painted my 203 Industrial red but Red fades so bad.
I don't like M.F. yellow so I mixed my own color. It may not appeal to the all original guys/gals but I don't go to tractor shows. I would go if there weren't people, just tractors.
Anyway I bought a 203 backhoe that fell apart soon after purchase. I completely rebuilt the engine and put all new gears and bearings in the transmission.
I like contrasting parts. Spraying all one color looks good too. Anyway after about 6 months its coming together Here is a few pictures.
I still have the rear section of the tractor to clean and paint, wheels to paint
Then do cleaning and repairs to the loader and backhoe. Mechanical repairs on the engine and tranny came first. That's almost done. The loader and backhoe aren't too bad mechanically. I d0 need a new backhoe bucket pin and hoses. The fuel line was hooked up to the fuel tank today. its drivable again.
Its a journey

Looks good but the color orange has red in it so you need to protect it from the sun as much as possible when not in use.

Thanks Ben
I took advantage of it being disassembled to paint in some detail.

Stephen you have good knowledge of what red does in UV light.
I mixed that color. Its a gallon of Massey Fe5guson yellow and a pint of I.H. red. I have a faded I.H. C (pink)
Its a little less orange in person but will fade in light as you say. I did use hardener in the paint.
I opened the M.F. yellow and couldn't take the color. I was a printer for about 15 years and red ink also fades.
It will be in the shed while at rest.
First time I had to rebuild an engine and tranny together.
I just have enough paint to finish the chassis. The fenders hood , loader frame and backhoe I may need two more gallons. I give it all two coats
I'm wanting a dependable tractor. I like the way the perkins diesel is designed. Accept the old style rear seal.
I still have a lot of Sheetmetal to cover.

What paint did you use? I have a Kubota tractor I painted about 10 years ago with Rust-oleum Farm @ Implement paint and it's barely faded. I think it's doing almost as good as expensive automotive paint.

I used van-sickle tractor paint. Its an industrial implement paint sold at our local farm store. Using the hardener with it makes it a lot more durable.
I did use rust-oleum gray primer. I think the van sickle is comparable.
I bought new fenders. The hood needs a little body work. I have experience in body work. I don't like doing body work but its worth the effort. My hood needs re-arched. It doesn't fit the contour of the dash. I think someone stood on it. Ill squeeze it with wood clamps.
I like Kubota orange. Their factory paint fades. It helps to keep them in the shed if you have one.
I use to paint everything I.H. red but got discouraged with fading. My kids called I.H. red ,dads red.

Thanks ASEguy
They took away paint stripper at a bad time for me. I use a flap disk on open areas and flat steel.
Are there any suggestions for a paint stripper other than sandblasting. I have a big sandblasting pot. I could remove hydraulic cylinders from the backhoe and rent a big compressor.

I hate sandblasting but there is a lot of metal to strip on the f.e.l. and backhoe. I also have to re-bush wallowed out pin/bolt holes
My old big compressor died

I intended to ask if anyone has found a substitute paint stripper since they took my favorite aircraft stripper off the market.
Mike

Good luck. I had to resort to the nasty sandblasting as none of the current strippers worked. Ever considered a urethane topcoat to stop fading? They make top coats for enamel paint now to prevent UV fading and extend the life of the paint.

Coming together nicely. That is one heck of a journey. After I did one similar, only smaller, (Allis Chalmers) I sent the previous owner a picture. He replied back "Oh... so you're one of those guy's! Nice work.
