power washing/degreasing

want to touch up the make up on Jubilee. but before I paint I want to clean in up. Im planning on using purple power to degrease it and power wash it carefull of electrics and what not. Do people find this works ok...she not that greay...and I do plan to nylon brush it after PP and before Power Wash for any stubborn areas. Am I better to do it with engine not hot but warm or just cold.?? I thought I heard somewhere that a warn engine to degrease works better than cold. advise welcome on what works for you.

I use purple power and it works very well however I've found if you buy it at a big box store such as walmart it isn't the same as what a smaller place such as tractor supply sells. What walmart sells is watered down. I'd be very careful washing a warm engine. I don't know if it would help that much to wash the engine warm, the water would cool it very quickly. Look it over good, there will still be places you have to scrape and then use oven cleaner. When I cleaned my tractor I found places that had dirt and grease which had packed very tightly and dried and then painted and the paint stuck.

I had a Briggs8 hp engine coatEd with oil and dirt , Well I been using purple power half and half . I used a tooth brush to get into the same corners and the 3m red 5x8 pad, love this pad it just melts away the crude in like one pass ,exaggerated but to me it doses a fantastic job. I have a power washer but didn’t use it , on the small engines it’s the 3m pad is the hot set up.
The tooth brush just smeared the work, I might cut a piece of 3m and glue it to a stick I worked that good.
Going to use it on the Fordson differential next let you know how it does .

Do you have a number for the 3M pad you're referring to. Im not familiar with one that meets you're description. Thanks!

A little late to this discussion. But I use a jet tip nozzle on a high temp water hose right off the water heater (I put in an outside spigot about five feet from the water heater for doing this and for watering the critters during the winter). My water heater puts out water at about 160. It does good; if I can see it, it comes off. A heated pressure washer would do better. But those are real spendy!

I miss the Hotsy high pressure steam cleaner we had at work...it would strip paint with no problems.
