I wouldn't attempt it myself. I worked a pretty bad dent out of a car fender just by working at it with a hammer and dolly. I also had to use a metal shrinking dolly. You have to keep in mind that working the metal will slowly expand it and then you may need to shrink by heating and quenching. That hood looks like a project for when you are retired and need something to keep you busy for a month, LOL.

Of course a body shop could do a better job but if you are strapped for time and funds I think you could hammer that out. I would just lay it on that wooden trailer and use a block of soft wood and a small sledge hammer to beat it out. Just take your time and shape the metal as close as you can and then fill the difference with a fiberglass filler. When you prime it use two different colors of primer. Then when you sand between coats it will show you where the high and low places are. There will likely be shallow dents still there you can't see and the primer will fill those shallow dents. Then if you have a dent protruding that easily sands to bare metal you might need to hammer that down before you resume priming.

(quoted from post at 20:46:40 05/20/20) I think I?ll try that

SV, using two colors of primer as Stephen mentioned is called "guide coat" if you want to look it up.

It is important to know, you do not pound the dents out, you apply pressure on the dent and tap on surrounding strain locations so it pops back.

find an old school body man to work that metal . it is pretty thick, and caving and paving is not gonna work. gonna need hammer and dolley work, pick and file, and shrink with an oxyacetylene torch to do it right. if you go at it with a hammer you are going to stretch the metal and be chasing oil can dents for all eternity. if you want to attempt it, watch some u tube videos on shrinking and stretching metal. seeing some of the projects you have completed, you should have no problem with this.

I agree with you, SV is a pretty handy cookie, my dad was master at old school body work, me not so much.
