Muriatic acid

Has anyone ever remove rust with muriatic acid? If so what steps did you do afterwards to prepare it to paint? Thinking about trying my first paint job. I know absolutely nothing about the process other than what I can find online.

People do use it but what you really want is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve loose fee rust but the tougher stuff gets converted to iron phosphate which is a protective coating. Rust converters sold at auto parts and paint supply stores are phosphoric acid. You need to rinse well to get the loose rust and excess acid off.

Muriatic acid is good for removing rust. Problem is the instant flash ruse that occurs when rinsing off the acid with water.
Baking soda neutralizes Muriatic acid.
