JD dealer paint

Anyone have experience with JD paints from the dealer? Just thinking I might try them on a project. They seem cheaper than the auto store paint. Are they any good? thanks

There are many things that are important about paint, but where you buy it is not one of them. The big thing is that you should not use cheap implement paint over a 50 hour prep job, and don't use expensive automotive paint over a five hour prep job. I have been happy with low end automotive 2K urethane paint.

My friend had the local FFA restore his H around 14 years ago. I think that they used alkyd enamel.

You can see that the paint held up well under the decals.

This GP was painted with John Deere paint; with hardener and reducer from a parts store in town. I don't use the hardener or reducer that john Deere provides.

What type hardener would work for the dealer paints? Could I buy the hardener from auto parts store for acrylic paint? Would that work?

John Deere sells good paint .

I painted this tractor in 2003 with John Deere paint no hardner no nothing just paint and the reducer I guess it?s called . This picture was 2 years ago

It needs polishing again now . It has spent a total of 6 weeks in a shop since the day it was painted . I had it in a friends shop last winter while I did some repair work on it

The John Deere paint is a synthetic enamel, you can get hardener for synthetic enamel.

They have good paint, a NAPA 254 works fine.
