The adhesives thread got me thinking about a repair I did to my son's truck a couple years ago. It is a 2001 Silverado reg. cab and I replaced the inner and outer rockers and cab corners. I hit the entire repair area, inside and out with Fluid Film to try and prevent rust.
Doing some work on it a few weeks back and I noticed the paint on the underside of the rockers is starting to peel.
My question is this; When you put on replacement panels, do you simply scuff and then apply primer and paint or do you strip the factory "electro deposit" primer off and get it to bare metal before applying primer?
I'm seriously questioning whether the primer they put on is simply to prevent the part from rusting before you get it or if it's intended to stay in place. I did use 2k primer on the inside of the panels before installing them as an extra measure of protection.
