Leva, I haven't tried them but while planning the work on my car project I found out that autobody shops use panel adhesives probably 100 times more than welding. Like any coating they bond to what you put them on so you can't have rust creeping in under the adhesive.

i own a body shop . we use a lot of the semm adhesive products. they are super strong and work really well. heres a couple pics of a rocker replacement using panel adhesives.

Glennster, do you require viable paint on both surfaces for the glue? or bare metal?

(quoted from post at 17:42:02 12/24/19) Son works at Fire truck manufacturing plant. They have retired most of their welders since going to adhesives.

RedGreenGuy, our department's newest truck has sheet plastic exterior panels. It went bak to the service center to get one replaced because it had a 3/4 inch bulge.

I used a 3M panel adhesive on a repair panel on a Dodge Caravan where I couldn't weld because of insulation inside the panel. Worked great!

I also have used it elsewhere where I needed a strong adhesive, like on the seat of our zero turn mower where the original adhesive bonding seat parts together failed. Worked good there, also.

The bottom line is, I still prefer to MIG weld body panels, but I won't hesitate to use panel adhesive, either.

what are you using on the places where vice grips are not possible? I'm 74 with AMD and still have a few projects. Doc says I should quit welding!

we use self drilling screws. after the adhesive sets overnight, run the screws out and fill the holes. youcan see them where the rear of the rocker meets the cab corner.
