If you want it to last use an automotive urethane over epoxy primer. It needs to be sprayed and the fumes are so dangerous you need an air supplied respirator to do it.

I pained this in 2001 with John Deere paint

Do you want a barret Jackson trailer queen with a paint job that cost more than the tractor did new or do you Want a tractor to look better than it does now in 5 different shades of rust and mismatched faded paint is the thing to think about also if you?ve never really painted anything it?s not to good of an idea to spend a lot of extra money on paint until too have done a couple paint jobs and know what you are doing

Here is my friend's H that was "restored" for him by the local FFA maybe 15 years ago.

Note how well the paint protected by the decals held up compared to the uncovered paint.

(quoted from post at 09:34:16 11/03/19) Best paint is an automotive acrylic enamel or urethane, not cheap.

David, I have been using Nason 2K urethane. It is not cheap but a lot less than a lot of automotive paint.

What did they use on the H? Was it was sprayed with rattle cans and then put out in the sun?

I never asked the owner. When it showed up at his place and they were using it to pull hay rides I just assumed that it would hold up for a long time. Chances are the teacher is gone now too, even if he did remember.

(quoted from post at 00:17:18 11/06/19) Keep in mind also that prep is the key for the paint to last longer.

Barwin, it is obvious to me that the paint has simply weathered away as opposed to peeling due to rust coming in underneath. It has to be cheap paint over an excellent prep.
