Which Nason hardener with IH 2150 paint

I ran out of the Valspar hardener. The Auto parts store only sells Nason paint products. I have only two days of good weather this week, to finish painting. Going to the IH dealer isn't an option now. The parts store had four or five different categories of hardeners and each of them had three or more part numbers listed. Is it safe to buy any of the hardeners that is listed for an acrylic enamel paint?
Thank you

You would be playing chemist to use a Nason hardener. You don't know if it is completely compatible. It might seem to work but the finish might fail prematurely. As a general rule to have a good paint job you use the same brand paint, hardener and thinner.

To answer your question though I would go with Nason Fulcryl Activator. It's made for their acrylic enamel.

Thank you. Today may be the last day of good weather to paint. Would you buy the Nason hardener and use it, or not use any hardener at all? Most of the tractor has been painted with hardener and today I need to paint the fenders, tank, hood and grill.

Your IH paint is a synthetic enamel. The acrylic hardener will work, but you should use synthetic hardener.

I wouldn't use the paint without a hardener but I think I would put off painting until I could get the correct hardener even if you had to wait until spring. I have a situation of my own where I need to touch up a clear coat on a car and I have most of a gallon of urethane clear coat but the hardener has gone bad. I can't buy more hardener because the company has gone out of business so instead of buying another brand hardener and mix with the urethane I'm going to pitch it and start over with new urethane and matching hardener. If you start playing chemist and it doesn't go well it can create much more problems than it's worth. If my clear coat would go badly I would end up having to strip it down to bare metal and start over.

I think that I will wait until I can get the Valspar hardener. I screw up so much stuff, that taking a risk isn't a smart think to do.

Actually the Valspar and Majic hardeners are made for oil based alkyd paints. You may have been having good luck with them but really isn't the correct hardener for a synthetic enamel.

I can't seem to find a website dedicated to the IH paint to see what hardener is recommended. Basically if you are using IH paint you should be using IH hardener.
