dent preparations after ospho treatment

I stripped the paint off the gas tank and the hood of my Farmall C. It has been cold and wet this week. I treated the metal with Ospho. Next step is to wash it, with water, correct? Before filling the dents, do I need to sand them, or do I just dry them and fill them with body filler?

After I finally asked the question correctly on google, I found the following reply.
"Clean off the Ospho. The plastic will have issues bonding to the coating"

Some forums I have seen guys get by with scuffing the ospho for primer while others are pretty explicit about getting it off before their primer is applied.

The real issue is in whether you neutralized it/removed residue while wet or not. If you let a film dry, you need to deal with it via rewetting with more ospho/scrubbing residue or sandblasting.

Well I read the info on the site you listed. I will need to re wet the ospho and clean it again.
TY for that info.

Rewet WITH ospho. Maybe that's what you meant, but just wetting with water won't doing any good so trying to clarify.

Unless you just have to fill the dents in the gas tank it might be better you didn't. If gas got to the filler it would lift it. Even most paints will lift with the E10 gas they make today. An automotive urethane would hold up to gas.

I've actually yet to see gasoline damage even Deere/ CIH dealer paint, personally. We are always careful to fill out of a gas can after the fresh job but after that things splash about and I have not seen the paint lift. Perhaps if it is SOAKED for a length of time that is a different story, but anything that gets on the tank evaporates before it does damage. I definitely wouldn't expect gas to get into polyester...and even if it did, it would still have to ruin the paint job first anyway.

Get phos off with the power washer or hose. If you let is pry on there it's not primeable and you have to retreat it and rinse it. Get the metal dry and light primer coat ASAP. Pros use etching primer, I have yet to do so.
