Which welder to buy?

Hello

I know it's not about a tractor, but I get my best information from this website. I have an F350 Diesel, 2004, it's looking pretty rough. I'm thinking about trying some body work. I don't have a welder, what would be a good type of welder that I should purchase for a job like this and general repair work on the farm? And if somebody could give me some advice on where to look for good F350 replacement parts I would appreciate that also. Thanks.

A 220 volt wire feed (mig) welder with at least 180 amps output so it can also be sued for heavier jobs. Personally I'd get a welder from Miller. Their "autoset" models is good for the beginner as it has settings for the thickness of metal being welded, and the wire diameter you are using so it sets the amps/wire speed for you so you don't have to experiment with amps, and wire speed.

I have a Lincoln 110 that I got 25 years ago for light work. I have just gotten an old car on the road that I spent around 100 hours welding replacement pieces onto. I did all but welds as opposed to lap-overs so that there would be no place to hold moisture.

For body work you need MIG . Preferably with gas shielding. I'm Miller blue myself .although I would not rule out a nice Lincoln.

Auto set would be great. A few years ago i went to
tractor supply and bought a Hobart 190 220. It
does a great job. But the guy wearing the auto
darkening helmet can always use a bit more
practice. Either way, Miller, Hobart, or other quality
brand will get you where u want to go. Sometimes i
wish I had a 110v for portability.

Thank you very much for all the comments. I am a beginner, have never welded a thing in my life. I sure appreciate the help.

Thanks.

If you have never welded before then a big welder is probably a waste of time at this point + the more compact one will still come in handy to haul around for smaller jobs if you need to grow down the road.

Lincoln 140.

whatever you choose protect your lungs, something I should have done but now will have to live with rest of life. been welding since junior high school age 6th grade, today I do not even own welder last unit shorted out, still have fresh air weld helmet thou

I bought a Lincoln 210 mig/stick combination about two plus years ago. I am very pleased with it. Using 75/25 shield gas is the way to go, clean welds and so much less smoke than flux core.
