2nd coat acrylic enamel

I am painting my tractor with acrylic enamel with hardener. I have most of the cast iron painted but found a couple of thin spots. The paint is 3 days old. Can I just overspray the thin spots or have i missed the window.

Hit them with a scotch brite pad first to break the gloss.

You might need to wait a while longer before rewetting the dry paint as well to help prevent lifting. This is likely called out on the can or in the TDS of whatever you are using. If not, I'd wait til day 7, scuff, respray. You do not need to reprime.

There isn't a recoat window for acrylic enamel. You could paint over it in 3 days or 3 years. It will need to be scruff sanded with some fine sandpaper 400 grit or finer. You would have better luck instead of spraying just a spot to paint the entire panel. Spraying a spot would lead to a lot of hand rubbing or buffing to make the sheen uniform.

There is a recoat window. If there wasn't, there would be no need to abrade the surface existing coat.

Agreed on spraying entire panels/parts. You'll never get ahead of your own overspray trying to do spots within panels.

Thanks for all the good info. I have not yet sprayed the sheet metal. It is on some of the cast iron on the transmission case. Not as critical for
matching I don't think.

If you can tape at an edge and spray up to it you'll be fine.

Three days might be stretching it.

That being said, some of the best paint jobs I did on vehicles when I was still using single stage were situations where I let the vehicle sit over night, next morning I decided I didn't like the looks of it, and shot another coat.
