jd 450 manure spreader

On jd 450 manure spreader the side panels are blemished, looking for advice on repairing, any help would be greatful. Thanks for now Lloyd.

Blemished isn't a word often used to describe a manure spreader. Does it have little dents? or big dents? or holes rusted through? or just kind of scraped and rust spots?

It has wood panels that are coated with plastic. There are places where the plastic is worn through.Trying to find out how to repair.Jd did provide a kit to repair but it is no longer available.I am restoring this spreader.Thank you for all replies.Lloyd

I think if you have plastic parts that are worn through and you are unable to replace them about all you can do is fabricate some. Anything you try to repair what you have will fail a great deal faster than what it did originally.

It sounds like the spreader may have a plastic sheet on the inside that is attached to the wood side walls. You say that the plastic is a coating but I bet that it is a sheet and not a coating. If that is the case I would look on line for a plastic supply company in the area. Due to the physical size it would have to come by truck which would add a lot to the cost, so you would save a lot if you could picket up.

It is like plywood with plastic fused all around it.The plastic is worn on a
couple of spots on the inside. Looking for ideas.

Thought those 450 spreaders were coated with fiberglass. Deere used to have a repair kit when they were new.

The repair kit is nla. There does not seem to be any fibers in the coating.I am going to try Just resin with hardner to coat the damaged spot.Thank you for the replies.Lloyd

ITs fiberglass over marine plywood. I currently have mine torn apart, and doing a refurbish. If you want to order new sides: john deere would love to sell them to you. Yes they are available at 1100 per side. No way Im paying that. So my repair goes like this: cut out the bad plywood, replace it. Sides are 1/2 inch. Blemishes can easily be fixed with bondo. If you have some good wood around it, drive short screws at various angles, or brad nails, leaving head exposed for bondo to grab. After Im done I am spraying the entire inside with POL-Raptor liner. Its like a high grade bed liner, but resistant to animal urine. I have used it inside horse trailers, etc and it doesn't fade and lasts forever. Can even be tinted if you want JD green.
