First time painting a tractor

I have painted lots of stuff but this was my first tractor. It is my 1937 Huber B, and man was it a work out. Sprayed it wit epoxy after it was blasted then two coats of PPG concept and one coat of concept mixed half and half with clear coat. I was a little sad at the amount of putting on the tractor but it still turned out nice.

So, I will be painting with a hvlp gun. I had problems shooting the belly of the tractor on a previous tractor. Are there any tips for a diy'er on shooting the belly. The angle with the tractor on jack stands just is not compatable with the gun angle. gobble

Be mindful of how full the gun is -- you can keep paint going through the nozzle better when is full.

If that isn't enough to get you through it then you would have to consider a pressure feed or 3m pps type setup.

thank you, yes a smaller cup, maybe paint the belly first with the cup full. Won't be able to lay on a creeper to move around as there will be plastic and cardboard covering the floor. Pressure feed would be with a pot and hoses to the gun, right?? Explain 3mm pps setup. thanks gobble

Yes, pressure setup has a separate can and hoses going to the gun. I see more drawbacks than positives on a setup like this. Namely, my off-hand is no longer free to move things around/hold myself up to get into the hard to reach places. That makes them a no-go for me.

The PPS setup you can look up videos on youtube. It's a bit pricey but allows you to spray at any angle. In fact what I should have remembered was that you can get liners for your current cup and they would allow the same thing: https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/devilbiss-ez-liners-omx-70-k48-p-12956.aspx these are much cheaper than a pps setup.

In any case, I haven't had any problem spraying the bottom of the tractor with a standard gravity feed gun. There are a couple times per job that I wish I could spray upside-down, but I can get those areas without it so long as I'm paying atention.
