Paint clabbering

I have been painting an old Farmall tractor using IH 2150 paint. Most of it went on great but one batch clobbered up in the HVLP paint gun. I had mixed it the same as before, 24 oz paint - 3 oz thinner, 2 oz hardner. What is causing this gunky clobbered buildup?

I am not a paint expert and I have never heard of clobbered milk either, but I used to eat cottage cheese as a kid. The amount of hardener sounds like a lot for the amount of paint and thinner from my experience, but anyway you apparently went over the pot life.

Sorry about the wrong terms. My dad has milked cows more
than half of his life and he always used the term ?clobbered ?
milk.

Is all the paint coming out of the same can? It sounds more like a bad can of paint. If it's all out of one can did you stir it thoroughly before starting? The components in paint will separate after it sits for a while.

The only time I've had paint do like you are describing is some oil based paint I used the low odor thinner and another time an employee tried to thin some lacquer with kerosene.

Are you talking about paint clabbering or paint clobbering? Doesn?t matter don?t know what either one is.

Only 3 oz. of thinner to 24 oz. of paint? I've never used that paint, but most automotive paints use roughly half thinner to paint. Did that ration work on the other pots of paint?

It may be he used just an alkyd enamel. You don't thin it very much or you will ruin it. It's also possible what ruined the paint was low odor paint thinner. Every time I buy some of the low odor stuff it ruins the paint so I don't buy that product anymore.
