AIR CLEANER REPLACEMENT

Has anyone ever put on a modern style air cleaner on a 50's type tractor? I understand that the tractor would not be original as many want, but is it something people do? (vice using the original and worrying about oil baths, and old style filter elements? ...not actually saying I want to do this, but just asking.)

Sorry, I didn't mean to put this in Paint and Bodywork!

It is almost always done on pulling tractors. I put a K&N on my Ford 960, but I put it on the end of the intake tube, so it is up under the hood where you don't see it. It looks like the oil bath unit is still in use.

Does it fit on the intake tube perfectly? Sounds like something good to do!

If you are going to use your tractor for work, the oil bath filter can't be beat. Go over to the Ford forum and query oil bath air cleaners and you'll find several discussions on converting to modern type filters. It seems the consensus is to stick with the oil bath system.

The only work it might see is pulling some downed trees out my wooded area, and pulling a float at the local parade? I do have a back blade for it, which may be used rarely on my 2.5 acre property. I have this tractor just because I love the history of Ford, being from Detroit, both father, and Grandfather worked for Ford. I have a 641 Workmaster.

I have the oil bath on my other four bangers, and have had one significant problem. Wind blown rain will get into the side intake and down into the bowl.
