bad sector

My just acquired DF Dx-6.05 supposedly has somewhere over 4,000 hours but I can't see where that would have been read from since the glass-cage annunciator is half dead {the images are not from my rig}.

Are there any DF gurus lurking here that could direct me to some applicable resources? First I'd like to know how to recover the hour meter data, second (if that worked) how to 'repair' the glass horror to make it usable again, third how to replace it completely with a maker-proper (deutz) classic steamgauge RPM/hour-meter (with hours preset to 4500 or whatever I may have find in the glass bottle).
I want to know the hours only to stay honest, cylinder ridge is enough for my own use and I [b:7786be8b86]will [/b:7786be8b86]be opening the engine anyway.

Apparently I was too new to upload pictures so here goes scene-1, take-2:
This is a 'steamgauge' style glorified RPM gauge, a MUST in my book, just like a real hour-meter and a real oil-pressure gauge, etc.
This one is what I found, can't make it show hours. It does show some numbers now and then, reminding me of old digital watches that would progressively dim out after a few years of sweat anbsorption. Don't know if this is where hours would show at all but I do know that I want it fixed just enough to cough up its hours-secrets then OUTTA THERE PRONTO!

images of the digital horror I removed and what I'm looking for can be seen here, including part numbers. There IS a service in Germany that repairs them, the cost is "forgetit".

Forget it! Apparently these digital horrors also stop accumulating engine hours when they fail if not before. So even if I did recovers the stored hour-total it would be as on the dat the junk-technology failed. In other woirds completely worthless. I can get a better idea by eyeballing cylinder ridge.
