Long 445 Clutch Replacement

Hi All - I have a long 445 diesel tractor. Spent the day draining all fluids because she wont move. Shell budge just a tiny bit and thats it. I removed the covers on the side of the transmission and flywheel case, fished my hand down there and pulled a few pieces of disk right out. There was also a good amount of oil (couple inches) on the bottom of the case. I thought this clutch was dry anyhow. I see the clutch plate is available still but curious if it would be worth taking the time to replace. Ive not split any tractors apart but have worked on my fair share of equipment projects. Tractor is in overall decent shape otherwise. Engine is strong and has a good bucket. Im up in Montana. If there are any backyard mechanics that are familiar with these please reach out. If your near MT and want some work let me know. Ill pay someone to R&R the clutch. Thanks!

Best way to get a clutch is buy the whole unit already assembled and adjusted. Also sounds like you'll need a new rear main seal or front transmission seal or both.

I agree. I've taken two of them to Clutch Dynamics in Lansing. Both times, Dan has told me that the plates were worn too bad to rebuild it and he just ordered a whole new unit for it. What the original poster needs to know is, that isn't a normal clutch that runs against the flywheel and pressure plate. The clutch is inside the pressure plate and the whole unit bolts to the flywheel. The PTO clutch runs against the flywheel.

They're not hard to split. Take off the fuel tank, then lay the dash up over the engine.
