Gibson Model A

AZ GARY

Member
I have a Gibson Model A. I think the original paint was blue, I'm going to go with MH gray as I read someplace that color matched their gray that some where painted. My question on one axle housing it is stamped Seattle WA and the other side is stamped Longmont CO. On the CO side a number 27 is stamped into the housing does this mean anything? I can't find any other markings on it. It doesn't have the original Wisconsin engine but the rest of it seems pretty original. I do need the plate over the drive shaft. If anyone could send a picture of how that is laid out I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

The 1/8'' floor plate is a piece of metal that starts out at approximately 18-1/2 inches wide by 8 inches long. It has a peaked centerline that allows water and mud to drain off. If you set the piece on a flat surface, the highest point of this peak, at its underside, it is 2-1/4 inches from the flat surface. There is also a rolled edge on each end of the floor plate where it meets the outer edge of the ''C'' channel frame rails. These, due to the slightly undersize dimensions of the plate due to the central peak, use tension to grip the rails to hold the floor plate in place. These ''grippers'' are approx. 1/2 inch in length.

Because of the upward pressing of the central peak and the outer edges being rolled downward, the overall width of the floor plate shrinks from the original 18.5 inches to slightly less than 17 when measured from outer edge to outer edge.
